MDQ metadata increasing to 21 days validity

Posted on Wednesday, 1 September 2021

On 1 September, we will be increasing the validity period of metadata from the MDQ service from 14 days to 21 days, to provide more resilience and to bring it in line with our metadata aggregate. If you are using the MDQ service, you should ensure that your deployment is configured to accept metadata with this validity period.

Please note that our Federation Technical Specifications state that the validity of metadata will never be less than 7 days nor more than 28 days. The configuration examples for Shibboleth software on our documentation page MDQ are consistent with this.

As we flagged in our December mailshot, in the initial pilot phase of our MDQ service (before June 2017) we published configuration examples for Shibboleth IdPs that restricted the validity period to a fortnight. We apologise for any inconvenience to early adopters who need to modify their configurations.

If you have any concerns or questions about this change, please contact the UK federation service desk

The announcement was provided in our mailshot on Friday 20th August 2021 in addition to our previous announcement in our mailshot on Wednesday 16th December 2020. Edited by JonAgland on 01 September 2021, at 03:40 PM
