General permission to use a domain name in an entityID

This page describes how to grant permission to use a domain name in the entityID of SPs. It should be read in conjunction with the policy on entityID format.

Organisation1 (a member of the UK federation) is an organisation that anticipates registering several SPs in the UK federation. Organisation1 does not own the domain name domain that will appear in the entityIDs for these entities. The domain is owned by Organisation2, which is another organisation, not necessarily a federation member, that is closely related to Organisation1. For example, Organisation1 may be a UK-registered company that hosts the entities and Organisation2 is a company registered elsewhere that registers domain names for the whole organisation.

A letter of permission to use the domain domain in entityIDs must be sent to the UK federation operator by Organisation2, the domain owner. Please note that the letter must be on Organisation2’s letterhead, and posted or emailed to the federation operator.
