JISC and Becta today announced the launch of the UK Access Management Federation. The Federation represents the centrepiece of JISC and Becta's significant investment in developing and implementing next generation access management systems based on Shibboleth technology, on behalf of the UK education and research community.

Shibboleth Service Provider Security Advisory

A Shibboleth Service Provider Security Advisory was issued today. Updated versions of the Shibboleth 1.3 and 1.2.1 Service Provider software are now available which correct a security issue. The full text of the Advisory is available here.

ProtectNetwork

The federation now includes ProtectNetwork, an open identity provider service that enables users to self-register, and then provides them with a free digital identity.

Typekey

The federation now includes an identity provider that allows TypeKey identities to be accessed within the federation. TypeKey is an open access, free identity service developed by Six Apart, Inc.

Metaleth Project

Metaleth, an early adopter project based at the University of Bristol, has joined the federation as an Identity Provider. The project is implementing a Shibboleth environment, and integrating it with the Ex Libris Group's library portal product Metalib as a Shibboleth Service Provider.
