An organisation which has been accepted for membership of the UK Federation may register any number of identity providers and service providers. The organisation may devolve the operation of a provider to any group within the organisation (including department, faculty, or project), or to an external agency.

The registration of an entity is the formal responsibility of the organisation's designated Management Liaison with the federation; indeed registrations will only be accepted if submitted by the Management Liaison. However in practice, particularly in large organisations, it is envisaged that the information required for the registration of an entity would be prepared by the designated Administrative Contact or Technical Contact for the proposed entity, and submitted to the Management Liaison for formal approval and forwarding to the federation operator. Thereafter the entity's Technical Contact would serve as the primary contact with the federation for technical issues related to the entity.
