The UK federation service comprises the elements listed below.
- Member enrolment
This enables an organisation to apply for membership of the UK federation and ensures it satisfies the eligibility criteria. - Entity registration
This enables a Member Organisation to request the publication in UK federation metadata of a new entity registration or amendment of an existing registration. - Technical support
This provides technical advice to Members on configuring and registering Identity Providers and Service Providers within the UK federation, and assists Members in diagnosing and correcting interworking problems. - UK Federation metadata
This ensures that federation Members are provided with metadata which provides assurance of entity ownership, technical accuracy, and currency. - Discovery service
This enables a Service Provider to discover the Identity Provider which will confirm the validity of an end-user’s credentials (also known as the WAYF service). - Website
This provides Members, potential members and third parties with a central resource for information and advice on all aspects of UK federation operation. - Training
This enables Members, potential members, and third parties to acquire hands-on experience in implementing service entities for use within the UK federation. - Federation integrity
This ensures that focus is maintained on all aspects of federation integrity and security in order to foster confidence among Members in the reliability of federation provision. - Reporting
This provides usage data, performance information, and other metrics as required by the federation funders. - Liaison
This ensures that high-level advice about participation, interworking, and use of UK federation services is available to interested parties. - Development
This ensures that the technical base of the federation continues to develop in line with Members’ requirements and with international developments in federated access management.
